Alphabetical List of NOC's in English

Compiled by Harvey Abrams, BS, MAT, Ph.D/abd
Olympic Games and Sport Historian

This page lists all the National Olympic Committees (NOC's) that are recognized
by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as of February 5, 2023.
There are 206 NOC's.

The list below is in alphabetical order in English, based upon the common name,
(not the formal name) of the COUNTRY in English. For example: CHINA is listed
under "C" even though the formal name is People's Republic of China which would
place it under the letter "P."

I have listed BURMA by its original name rather than MYANMAR which is not recognized by
the United States government.

The information on this page is given in the following manner:

NOC number (aka Abrams #),
NAME OF COUNTRY in English
followed by the 3 letter IOC abbreviation which is frequently from the French, not English.

For more information about NOC's please visit the website of
the International Olympic Committee.

* Macedonia. There is a current conflict over the name of this country when it became independent following the breakup of Yugoslavia. Greece objects to the name "Macedonia" because of ancient Greek history and the fact that a region of Greece is also called "Macedonia."
**Netherlands Antilles (AHO)
The National Olympic Committee of the Netherlands Antilles ceased to exist in 2011. The country itself ceased to exist in 2010. The Netherlands Antilles was previously known as the Dutch Antilles and was made up of five islands. On October 10, 2010 the nation split into different entities according to the voting of the people. The islands of St. Eustatius, Bonaire and Saba became municipalities of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The islands of St. Maarten and Curacao became independent countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. ARUBA became a separate country. Athletes were permitted to represent either ARUBA or The NETHERLANDS in the 2012 London Olympic Games. Look for a letter by the IOC dissolving the NOC of the Netherlands Antilles in 2011.
